## Commentary

Pierre-Louis Randon de Boisset was a royal tax administrator \(receveur général des finances\) and an avid collector of furniture, paintings and drawings. His great art collection and cabinet of curiosities \(which included several Rembrandts and Pussins\) was auctioned in 1777, achieving a total price of 1260775 livres. This auction was a major event in Paris.
