## Commentary

Burne-Jones began this painting in 1875 and completed for his exhibition at the Grosvenor Gallery in London in 1883, developing one of the motifs of the predella of a polyptych depicting The Story of Troy, much of which was only roughed out. This painting is an Italianate work that celebrates the artist&#39;s passion for Michelangelo.
