# Portrait of Frederick Hendrick [View the canonical artwork record]() ## Artwork - Artist: [DELFF, Willem Jacobsz]() - Date: 1601-1650 - Technique: Black chalk and brush and gray ink, 314 x 245 mm ## Commentary Only a very few drawings can be attributed to Delff; they were created as an intermediary stage between a painting and a print - as translation of the painting into graphic terms. The highly finished oval portrait of Frederick Hendrick, made after Van Miereveld's painting of 1623 is a good example.
