## Commentary

In the first half of the 19th century in Germany, alongside Gothic Revival buildings, other styles in church architecture had also gained a footing. Georg Friedrich Ziebland opted for the model of Early Christian Italian basilicas for St. Bonifatius church in Munich. The huge five-aisle building with a round-arch arcaded porch not far from the Königsplatz in Munich draws particularly on both Sant'Apollinare in Classe in Ravenna and San Paolo fuori le Mura in Rome. The church was largely destroyed in 1944-45.
