# The Last Judgment [View the canonical artwork record]() ## Artwork - Artist: [FRANCKEN, Hieronymus, II]() - Date: 1601-1650 - Technique: Oil on oak, 47 x 32 cm ## Commentary The Last Judgment by Hieronymus Francken II is the companion piece of the <A onclick="return OpenOther\('/html/f/francken/frans2/lastjud.html'\)" HREF="/html/f/francken/frans2/lastjud.html">Damned Being Cast into Hell</A> by Frans Francken II. Frans II and Hieronymus II were brothers, they were taught by their uncle Hieronymus I at the same time. This explains the similarity of their hand. Both scenes were based on engravings from a cycle by Hendrik Goltzius.
