## Commentary

In 1900 Van de Velde met the German patron Karl Ernst Osthaus, and there followed a fruitful 20-year association between them. For Osthaus, Van de Velde remodelled and completed the Folkwang Museum \(1902\) and Osthaus&#39;s own house, Hohenhof \(1907-08\), both in Hagen. The Villa Hohenhof - the home as the realm of the individual - was artistically designed right down to the last detail, as the synthesis of all its furnishings, as an interior design around which everything revolved in primarily Jugendstil style. The photo shows the entrance gate at Stirnband 10 with the gardener&#39;s house in front of the connecting building to the main house.
