## Commentary

This portrait shows Elizabeth Beckford \(1717?-1764\), full-length, seated in a loggia with her son Peter \(1740-1811\). Elizabeth Beckford, née Ashley, was the wife of Julines Beckford of Stepleton. The Beckford family&#39;s wealth derived from plantations they owned in Jamaica.
