## Commentary

Artists in the Meuse Valley were traditionally renowned for their beautiful works in champlevé enamel. This plaque representing the descent of the Holy Spirit on the disciples of Christ at the Pentecost belongs to a series that once decorated a large object, perhaps an altarpiece.
