## Commentary

The artist used here the oval format that he particularly favoured and even used for large-scale compositions and multi-figure narrative works. The subject of the Adoration of the Magi, and the traditional way it is depicted, demand a large, spacious pictorial field. Bazzani, however, compensated for the absence of showy conventional motifs by his virtuoso technique and intensity of expression.
