# Interior view of the oratory [View the canonical artwork record]() ## Artwork - Artist: [DORIGNY, Louis]() - Date: 1651-1700 - Technique: Fresco ## Commentary Interior view of the oratory c. 1719 Fresco Villa Allegri Arvedi, Cuzzano di Grezzana The Villa Allegri was built around 1656 by the Allegri family, nobility from Verona, on the site of a preexisting sixteenth-century structure. It was designed by the Veronese architect and sculptor <a onclick="return OpenOther\('/html/b/bianchi1/allegri.html'\)" href="/html/b/bianchi1/allegri.html">Giovanni Battista Bianchi.</a> The main hall of the villa and the adjoining oratory was decorated with frescoes by Louis Dorigny in c. 1719. The interior of the oratory is covered in frescoes which are better preserved than those in the main hall. The vault of the central space contains a depiction of Elisha and the Chariot of Helios. To the sides, in ovals edged with laurel wreaths, the figures of the Fathers of the Church are portrayed with almost comic-like wit. In the presbytery, the altar is a good example of trompe l'oeil painting. On the ceiling, the Holy Spirit accompanied by angels cherubs is represented.
