# Study of Diogenes for the School of Athens [View the canonical artwork record]() ## Artwork - Artist: [RAFFAELLO Sanzio]() - Date: 1501-1550 - Technique: Silverpoint, 244 x 284 mm ## Commentary Raphael continued to practice his silverpoint technique in Rome during the preparation of the Stanze; he obviously found it useful in defining the forms he was striving to develop as his style became increasingly monumental. Two drawings for the <A onclick="return OpenOther\('/html/r/raphael/4stanze/1segnatu/1/athens02.html'\)" HREF="/html/r/raphael/4stanze/1segnatu/1/athens02.html">central section</A> of the School of Athens show the artist exploring both anatomical and compositional problems with silverpoint.
