# Henry VIII and Henry VII [View the canonical artwork record]() ## Artwork - Artist: [HOLBEIN, Hans the Younger]() - Date: 1501-1550 - Technique: Pen in black, with gray, brown, black, and red wash, paper mounted on canvas, 257,8 x 137,1 cm ## Commentary This cartoon is a section of a drawing for the wall painting in Whitehall, originally three times as large but to the same scale. However, unlike in the wall painting as finally executed, where Henry has his head turned frontally to the viewer, the cartoon shows Holbein planning a three quarters profile.
