## Commentary

The stage assumed a guiding role in the evolution of taste in Versailles in the second half of the 17th century. This engraving of Le Pautre shows the theater where The Festivities of Cupid and Bacchus was performed in 1668 in the Petit Court at Versailles. remarkable harmony between the architectural setting and the lavish staging can be observed.
