# Lycaon Consecrating the Dagger of Apollo [View the canonical artwork record]() ## Artwork - Artist: [FERRARI, Luca]() - Date: 1601-1650 - Technique: Fresco ## Commentary In the second scene of the fresco cycle in the transept hall of the villa, Athena, dressed in armour and settled comfortably on a cloud, dominates the background, protecting the Trojan fleet as it sets out to open sea, sails unfurled. The consecration ceremony takes place in the foreground, where Antenor's son, Lycaon, kneels before a slender statue of Apollo that stands on a cylindrical pedestal embellished in delicate relief.
