## Commentary

Le Lorrain was employed by the Cardinal de Rohan in the years 1735-38 in exterior decoration of his huge palace at Strasbourg. A small part of a large scheme is the now weathered group of three children, one of whom is playfully trying on a cardinal&#39;s hat.
