Clouet's portrait of Pierre Quthe, an apothecary, is influenced by both Bronzino and Holbein. The painting indicates that François Clouet must have been familiar with Florentine painting, for the type conforms to one in regular use by painters like Pontormo, Bronzino, and Salviati.
