## Commentary

Two Ladies of the Lake Family c. 1660 Oil on canvas, 127 x 180 cm Tate Gallery, London Lely was an English painter of Dutch origin \(Pieter van der Faes\). He went to London in 1641 and lived there until his death. He was a portraitist influenced by Van Dyck and became first court painter in 1661.
