Mary, Joseph and the Child have found refuge under a simple roof. In the foreground, shown very small in scale, the ox and ass crowd round the crib. The angel of the Annunciation appears in the initial underneath, while in the bas-de-page three shepherds can be seen with dogs and sheep in a hilly landscape.
