# Tomb of Archbishop André Cruesen [View the canonical artwork record]() ## Artwork - Artist: [FAYDHERBE, Lucas]() - Date: 1651-1700 - Technique: Marble ## Commentary A sculptor, ivory-maker, and architect, Faydherbe was the only leading sculptor of his generation who never went to Italy; but he collaborated closely with Rubens, hence his pictorial and theatrical style. After a series of apostles for Brussels Cathedral, he produced his most important work with this funerary monument in marble. Its central figure of the kneeling prelate is far superior to the flanking figures of Christ and Chronos.
