## Commentary

In 1390, the sculptor Jacques de Baerz \(also la Barse\) received a commission for an altarpiece for the church of the monastery of Champmol, which the Duke of Burgundy intended to be the necropolis of his dynasty. The altarpiece was carved by Baerz then &lt;a onclick=&#34;return OpenOther\(&#39;/html/b/broederl/00altar.html&#39;\)&#34; href=&#34;/html/b/broederl/00altar.html&#34;&gt;painted by Melchior Broederlam.&lt;/a&gt; It was installed in Dijon in 1399.
