# Amsterdam: View of the Dam with the Town Hall [View the canonical artwork record]() ## Artwork - Artist: [BERCKHEYDE, Gerrit Adriaensz.]() - Date: 1651-1700 - Technique: Oil on canvas, 69 x 91 cm ## Commentary Berckheyde's earliest views of Amsterdam date from the mid-1660s, the majority of these depicting the Dam with the Town Hall, the Nieuwe Kerk and the Waag, such as the present picture. This is his last dated view of the Dam, painted just one year before he died in 1698.
