## Commentary

This painting was commissioned by John Craufurd \(or Crawford\) \(1780-1858\), owner of Auchenames and Crosbie estates, in Renfrewshire and Ayshire. Crosbie Castle had been granted to Hugh Craufurd in 1263 by King Alexander.
