# Virgin and Child [View the canonical artwork record]() ## Artwork - Artist: [PISANO, Giovanni]() - Date: 1251-1300 - Technique: Marble ## Commentary The marble statues of the Madonna and Child, known as the Madonna d'Arrigo, and personification of the city of Pisa \(right\) are by Giovanni Pisano from 1313 and coming from the external lunette of the Porta di San Ranieri, exhibited now in the Museo dell'Opera del Duomo in Pisa. The damaged, seated Virgin and Child survives from a group that included a personification of Pisa, the Emperor Henry VII, and Angels for the tympanum of the Porta di San Ranieri in Pisa Cathedral.
