# The Reader [View the canonical artwork record]() ## Artwork - Artist: [NEER, Eglon van der]() - Date: 1651-1700 - Technique: Oil on canvas, 38 x 28 cm ## Commentary The Reader c. 1665 Oil on canvas, 38 x 28 cm Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York Due to the GTB monogram inscribed lower right, this painting was attributed for a long time to Gerard Terborch. More recent scholarship gave the painting to Eglon van der Neer. Although the work is clearly inspired by Terborch, it does not necessarily record a lost composition by him.
