# The Northern Hemisphere of the Celestial Globe [View the canonical artwork record]() ## Artwork - Artist: [DÜRER, Albrecht]() - Date: 1501-1550 - Technique: Woodcut ## Commentary The Northern Hemisphere of the Celestial Globe c. 1515 Woodcut British Museum, London Johann Stabius left Ingolstadt in 1497 and took up his residence in Vienna as professor of mathematics; he became court astronomer to the Emperor. Dürer made geographical works for him. In the corners are four astronomers: Aratus Cilis, Ptolemaeus Egyptius, Manilius Romanus, Azophi Arabus.
