## Commentary

The two hunting pieces \(this painting and its companion piece, The Meet\) are worth mentioning in the context of English painting. The artist spent many years in England, and he painted the hunting scenes for Sir John Frederick of Southwick Park in Hampshire. They show the lord of the manor and his companions out hunting on his estate.
