## Commentary

Portrait of Princess Amelia c. 1738 Oil on canvas, 125 x97 cm Private collection The sitter of the portrait is Princess Amelia \(1711-1786\), daughter of George II. She is depicted in a three-quarter length portrait format, standing in a pose that conveys confidence. Princess Amelia as amongst the first of van Loo&#39;s royal patrons following his move to England in 1737.
