# Mountainous Landscape with a Castle [View the canonical artwork record]() ## Artwork - Artist: [SAVERY, Roelandt]() - Date: 1601-1650 - Technique: Oil on panel, 46 x 63 cm ## Commentary Savery was one of the pioneers of landscape paintings in the Netherlands, where he arrived having worked in Prague in the service of Emperor Rudolf II. The Emperor sent him to the Tyrol around 1604 to make sketches for his landscapes, and these inspired numerous works.
