## Commentary

This glass painting is on the lower end of the famous 9th-century Cross of Desiderius, surrounded by gems. The legendary interpretation identifies the sitters as Empress Galla Placidia \(c. 390-450\) and her children Emperor Valentinian III and Honoria.
