## Commentary

Virgin and Child with Saints c. 1495 Oil on oak panel, 44 x 23 cm National Gallery, London This panel probably was part of a small altarpiece. The Virgin and Child are seated at the entrance to a walled garden. On the right, St Catherine of Alexandria and, further off, the seated figure of St Agatha with another female saint. Through a distant archway St Joseph enters the garden.
