# The Oostpoort \(East Gate\) at Delft [View the canonical artwork record]() ## Artwork - Artist: [VELDE, Jan van de, II]() - Date: 1601-1650 - Technique: Pen and brown ink, 191 x 304 mm ## Commentary The East Gate, also known as St Catherine's Gate was the oldest of all the medieval entranceways to Delft. It remains largely intact today. The drawing bears an old inscription lower right: W. Buyten weech, referring to Willem Buytewech who drew a few comparable cityscapes. However, the style of the drawing does not support the identification.
