However, based on his unusual clothes, it can be assumed that he belonged to the Court, or Council, of Holland, Zeeland, and West Friesland. This panel was probably the right wing of a diptych, indicated by the sitter's pose: he silently offers his devotion to a holy image, probably a Virgin and Child, at his proper right.
