# Altarpiece of the Nativity [View the canonical artwork record]() ## Artwork - Artist: [ROSSELLINO, Antonio]() - Date: 1451-1500 - Technique: Marble ## Commentary For the Piccolomini Chapel Antonio Rossellini carved an altarpiece of the Nativity in which the Nativity itself forms the central image with statues of St James and St John the Evangelist flanking it. The Nativity relief is an autograph work with a richly pictorial style.
