## Commentary

The funerary monument to Cortesia da Serego is on the left of the apse in the Dominican Gothic church of Sant&#39;Anastasia in Verona. It portrays the riding figure of Cortesia, clad with an armour and holding a commanding wand. His horse stands upon the sculpted sarcophagus, which has always been empty. The fresco part represents the Annunciation and Saints Peter of Verona and Dominic. it was painted by Michele Giambono in 1432. The monument is dedicated to Cortesia da Serego \(1335-1386\), a captain who worked for the powerful family of the Scaligeri, Lords of Verona.
