## Commentary

Gaddo Gaddi is recorded in the rolls of the Arte dei Medici e Speziali and written about by Giorgio Vasari, a 16th-century biographer of artists, but his oeuvre is largely conjectural. Vasari said that he was associated with Cimabue and Giotto. This panel was formerly attributed to Cimabue&#39;s workshop or to the young Duccio di Buoninsegna. It shows a strong design layout and a particular interpretation of Cimabue&#39;s language.
