# Exterior view [View the canonical artwork record]() ## Artwork - Artist: [ARCHITECT, German]() - Date: 1351-1400 - Technique: Photo ## Commentary The Frauenkirche \(Church of Our Lady\) in Nuremberg is a direct descendant of the palatinate chapels. Having a rectangular ground plan, it is a hall church with two aisles and a tribune for the emperor. It is an original Gothic transformation of the Romanesque chapel in the imperial palace in Nuremberg, dated to the 1170s. The façade contains an impressive display of coats-of-arms, including those of the Holy Roman Empire, the seven Electors, the town of Nuremberg, and the city of Rome. In all other respects the outside of the church is quite plain.
