## Commentary

Though most of his activity took place in Mantua, Giuseppe Bazzani is usually ranged with the Settecento painters of Venice, owing to his stylistic relationship to them. His fluid brush-work, soft forms and fiery colours certainly show the influence of Venetian masters, but his dramatic expression and lively composition show greater individualism.
