## Commentary

Ferdinand Alvarez de Toledo, Duke of Alva \(1507-1582\) was the governor-general of the Netherlands. He was appointed by King Philip II of Spain to replace Margaret of Parma. He entered Brussels at the head of a Spanish army in 1567.
