## Commentary

SALVIATI, Giuseppe \(b. ca. 1520, Castelnuovo di Garfagnana, d. ca. 1575, Venezia\) Presentation of Mary in the Temple 1548-50 Oil on canvas, 483 x 247 cm Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari, Venice The painting is on the altar dedicated to the Purification of the Virgin. The mandatory subject of the altar painting is complemented by the eponymous saints of various members of the donor&#39;s family. The represented saints are Paul, Helen, Augustine, Bernardino, Nicholas, and Mark.
