## Commentary

This is Plate 55 from the series The Disasters of War \(Los desastres de la guerra\). This plate is one of the many illustrations of the effects of famine in the series. In the &#39;ano del hambre&#39;, the year of the terrible famine in Madrid in 1811-12 thousands died of hunger.
