## Commentary

This double portrait represents Elizabeth Hamilton, later Countess of Warwick \(1720-1800\), and her brother William Hamilton \(1730-1803\), the eldest daughter and youngest son of Lord Archibald Hamilton. The future Sir William Hamilton is depicted here as a boy. He was a famous diplomat, antiquarian and British Ambassador to the Kingdom of Naples.
