## Commentary

Portrait of a Favourite Bay c. 1810 Oil on canvas, 64 x 76 cm Private collection The painting depicts a favourite Bay held by a black groom in a landscape. It shows the artist in his prime and illustrates the uncommonly fine technique which he employed. The subject matter of a favourite horse and groom is commonplace in Georgian sporting painters.
