## Commentary

The fourth relief of the narrative cycle, located on the central part of the pulpit, depicts the Massacre of the Innocents, decreed by King Herod. This is the only scene in the cycle that does not show Jesus or his family. The group of angels beside the scene at left is the most pronouncedly Gothic of the carvings.
