## Commentary

This life-size figure was carved in the workshop of Tilman Heysacker \(Master Tilman\), who was originally from the Lower Rhine but was active in Cologne. This statue, together with a St John the Evangelist \(also in the Budapest museum\) belonged to a Calvary group which stood under the triumphal arch of the church in Grosskönigsdorf. The Corpus that once belonged to the group is still in Grosskönigsdorf.
