# Portrait of a King Charles Spaniel in a Landscape [View the canonical artwork record]() ## Artwork - Artist: [HACKERT, Jacob Philipp]() - Date: 1751-1800 - Technique: Oil on canvas, 45 x 59 cm ## Commentary The King Charles Spaniel was a favourite pet in European courts and, though originally bred as a hunting dog, its small size made it more suited to the life of a lapdog. This canvas is one of a group of paintings of dogs which Hackert executed over more than two decades.
