## Commentary

Wolf Huber, a Danubian artist, painted a retable with scenes from the life of the Virgin, of which only two panels survive: the Flight into Egypt in Berlin, and a Visitation \(Bayerisches Nationalmuseum, Munich\). In the Flight into Egypt, the Holy Family seems to pose on a rocky outcropping as if it were a statuary group. Huber&#39;s figures recall the contemporary, often brilliantly coloured limewood figures of Austria and Germany.
