## Commentary

The Battle of the Centaurs and Lapiths c. 1719 Fresco Villa Allegri Arvedi, Cuzzano di Grezzana The picture shows one of the short walls in the main hall of the villa. Faux architecture frames the scene of The Battle of the Centaurs and Lapiths. The scene is flanked by boxes adorned with rose-coloured drapery and flower-filled vases. Below the scene is a virtuosic depiction of a pair of virile nudes engaged in a tenacious struggle, painted in imitation of classical marble statues.
