## Commentary

This picture celebrates the arrival of a newborn baby. This subject was traditional and popular in the 1660s and later years, as seen, for example, in the paintings by Gabriel &lt;a onclick=&#34;return OpenOther\(&#39;/html/m/metsu/nursery.html&#39;\)&#34; href=&#34;/html/m/metsu/nursery.html&#34;&gt;Metsu,&lt;/a&gt; and Jan &lt;a onclick=&#34;return OpenOther\(&#39;/html/s/steen/page2/celbirth.html&#39;\)&#34; href=&#34;/html/s/steen/page2/celbirth.html&#34;&gt;Steen.&lt;/a&gt;
