# The Loggia of Psyche [View the canonical artwork record]() ## Artwork - Artist: [RAFFAELLO Sanzio]() - Date: 1501-1550 - Technique: Fresco ## Commentary The decoration of the Villa Farnesina culminates in the series of frescoes painted by Raphael's pupils from his sketches, under his direction, and occasionally with his direct intervention, in the garden loggia, the Loggia of Psyche. Raphael's garlands of leaves, fruits, and flowers along the groins of the vaults and around the centre of the ceiling transform the architecture into an open bower, The episodes of the story of Cupid and Psyche are seen against the blue sky. Only those incidents of the legend of Cupid and Psyche that took place in heaven are represented.
