## Commentary

The Virgin of the Annunciation 1333 Tempera on wood, 31 x 21 cm The Hermitage, St. Petersburg This small panel was originally half of a two-part panel \(a diptych\) made for private devotion. The other half of this diptych, representing the angel of the annunciation is in the National Gallery of Art, Washington.
